This looks like a lot of fun…

Traditionally a rite that celebrates the coming of spring, Holi is marked by joyous participants throwing colored water and powder. In northern Uttar Pradesh, “Lathmar Holi” is celebrated before Holi itself, and while it is a rite of spring there as well, the festival also features another layer of fun rooted in Hindu mythology.

Lord Krishna is said to have visited the village of Barsana to tease his consort Radha. Women in the town responded by chasing him away. Today women from Barsana “beat” the men from Krishna’s village of Nandgaon with sticks for singing provocative songs and throwing colored powder on them.

A great combination of photos…

How much does a person’s looks change during his or her lifetime? Ojai, California-based photographer Betina La Plante is the one behind this arresting image of English actor Terence Stamp (Superman, Wanted, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace). By having him hold up an older picture of himself, La Plante provides an incredible juxtaposition.

It is amazing to see what went into making the Moon what it is today…

From year to year, the moon never seems to change. Craters and other formations appear to be permanent now, but the moon didn’t always look like this. Thanks to NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, we now have a better look at some of the moon’s history.

Maddie the Coonhound Standing On Things

I do love these odd ball travel photos by Theron Humphrey…

He worked in a commercial studio for a few years and then in 2011, he woke up one morning and hit the road. He decided that he wanted to tell people’s stories. So he kicked off his photo project This Wild Idea and he is traveling around the US, taking a photo of one person a day for 365 days.

During these travels, Humphrey began a side project that focuses on his trusty traveling companion, Maddie, perched atop various things in each state. And thus began the “super serious project about dogs and physics” playfully named Maddie on Things.
