This looks like an amazing setup, I can’t wait to see it in action, on Five, this monday (24th October at 8pm)…

Armed with a pre-release level of Battlefield 3, The Gadget Show enlisted a team of design experts to transform a Birmingham studio into an FPS simulator costing £500,000 ($650,000). A four by nine meter video dome surrounds the player as they stand on an omni-directional treadmill that lets you walk wherever you want to go. Ten infra-red motion tracking cameras and a sensor on your gun enables the picture to follow where you point it and a Kinect hack controls your jumping and crouching.

Brilliant but expensive, do check out the videos if you don’t quite believe it yourself…

This unique lamp was designed by Angela Jensen and engineer Ger Jansen. The Silhouette floating lamp based on the iconic table lamp looks ultramodern thanks to its floating top part. The floating effect is possible due to it´s electromagnetic components and a sophisticated control system. If you want to buy this lamp be ready to pay $1300. Have fun!

After a recent trip to the US trying to drive a hire car that thought it’s sat-nav was in Oklahoma whilst the car was in California (thanks Hertz!) I was very pleased to see the excellent Turn By Turn navigation app for Windows Phone has sprouted a version with downloadable maps, for a very reasonable £21.49 for the US and Canada.

Turn by Turn gives you premium quality Voice-Guided driving directions on your Windows Phone. Just simply tap a point on a map or search address/POI, then click on the pushpin and press the GO button. It is that simple. Leave the rest to Turn by Turn, which calculates your route based on your current GPS position and provides you with real-time turn by turn voice navigation.

One of the best elements is that you can selectively download only the maps you need which saves time and space on your phone. Highly recommended (although don’t forget to bring your usb car power adaptor as using the gps and an active app for two hours sucked the life out of my phone!)

An interesting new feature available with the new iOS update for the iPhone

Use AirPort Utility to manage your Wi-Fi network and AirPort base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule — right from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. See a graphical overview of your Wi-Fi network and devices. Change base station and network settings, or manage advanced features such as security modes, wireless channels, and more.

An interesting series of graphics…

Occupy George is a movement that hopes to print and stamp infographics that highlight the economic disparity in the US and then circulate that money around the world. The point being they could ignore and muzzle the Occupy Wall Street movement but the 1% can’t ignore the money.

I have fallen in love with the Google Reader app for android and have not found an app that gets anywhere near this on the Windows Phone. Fortunately, here’s a great tip for using the Google Reader which as been optimised for Android and iPhone, but still works well on any Mango mobile phone…

1. On your WP7 browser, go to: http://www.google.com/reader/i

2. Log in, and enjoy a very snazzy looking Google Reader interface!

3. Lastly if you hit the “…” menu at the bottom – there’s an option to bookmark the site, or pin the site to your start screen for even easier access!
