Now that’s pretty strange…

Believe it or not, this is the North Pole of Saturn. It is unclear how an unusual hexagonal cloud system that surrounds Saturn’s north pole was created, keeps its shape, or how long it will last. Originally discovered during the Voyager flybys of Saturn in the 1980s, nobody has ever seen anything like it elsewhere in the Solar System.

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the United Arab Emirates National Day, a magically divine light show was orchestrated by Obscura Digital, a creative agency based in San Francisco, which developed the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Projections Project. The company did its research and were clearly prepared to honor the rich history of Abu Dhabi in their light projections through their skilled employment of three-dimension mapping.

Beautiful drawing, brilliant concept.

For the month of December, artist Dan McCarthy created this stunning glow-in-the-dark poster of the aurora borealis (or the northern lights). Sadly, the 5 color screen print has already sold out but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it.

Loving this office, it’s one way to make sure no one falls asleep in meetings!

Designed by Scandinavian architecture practice Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the new headquarters for Nykredit, one of the leading mortgage banks in Denmark, is quite stunning. The 10-story-tall structure allows for an ample amount of natural light thanks to its impressive glass facade. The most striking part of the design has to be the three suspended meeting rooms that are cantilevered off of the third and fifth floors.

Simple, but powerful

Back in the summer of 2009, Portland, Oregon-based designer and creative director Ian Coyle decided that he would print a daily thought for 73 days straight. Using his 1950′s letterpress, he printed and inked by hand these messages that seem to take on new meaning as we begin this new year.

Love the typographical illustration style…

Illustrator and designer Jessica Hische, who has an array of big name clients including Barnes & Nobles, American Express, Victoria Secret, has created Veiny Type, typography that is reminiscent of a heart with its purple, blue and reds colors and, of course, its veins. It was created for her client Chatelaine and accompanied an article about women’s heart health.
