Porsche 918 Spyder rolls into production

Porsche has confirmed that its 918 Spyder hybrid supercar concept will be put into production. The dramatic concept will be an indirect successor to the Carrera GT, sitting at the top of the Porsche range as both its halo hypercar and the ultimate showcase of its hybrid powertrain technology.

The car is powered by a 500bhp V8 petrol engine – a development of the RS Spyder racer’s 3.4-litre unit – and a pair of electric motors with a combined output of 218bhp. The front wheels are driven by one electric motor and the rear wheels by the engine and the other motor, making the 918 Spyder four-wheel drive.

Disable spotlight on the iPhone to improve iOS performance

If you want to give your old iPhone a bit of poke go to Settings / General / Home / Search Results, then untick all the options, this removes all search results in spotlight but will give your old phone a new least of life, removing some of the application/os lag that seems to return quickly with any iPhone OS update.

Love this little wrap around the neck brace for the iPod Shuffle…

The Pod à porter, designed by Michiel Cornelissen, is an elegant solution to a straightforward problem: the new iPod Shuffle is too damn small. That’s fine if you’re wearing something on top that you can clip it to, but when you start putting that little guy down near your waistband, you risk getting the earphone cord tangled up in your workout business.

The walk-in closet office

Love this guys office, even if it might be a little claustrophobic for extended periods…

Some details… the room is a walk-in closet. 75″ wide x 96″ deep and 8′ tall. The custom desk and cabinets were built by Techline Twin Cities of St. Louis Park, MN. What you do not see are the full height shelves behind the door on the right and the upper cabinets that wrap around the room to the door on the left.

As a software engineer for VMware, the extra monitors are a blessing. managing Labs, multiple VM’s, and email, a browser, and my desktop need the extra real estate of the three Dell U2410 monitors. With the addition of the Macbook, iPad dock, and my blackberry… I may never need to go to an office again.

Apple Magic Trackpad update for Windows

Here’s the first roll up update to add support for the new Apple Magic Trackpad within Windows. The update adds limited support, excluding all the interesting multi touch features, but does at least make the device usable for right and left clicking. From the looks of the update, expanding the file using WinRAR allows you to directly access the contents, from which a manual driver update should be possible for non Mac machines.

I hope to have mine in a couple of weeks to try this out, fingers cross (so to speak) that Apple add multitouch support for Windows to rival the mac, something that is still absent from the Magic Mouse.
