I’m pretty excited about the next version of Windows Home Server, especially as it’s based on the excellent Windows 7 Server code base, lets hope Microsoft decided to be a little looser with the information rather than waiting until a build leaks.

So to summarize, none of this is official at all, and while some people are claiming the screenshots are fakes, they sure look pretty solid.  Of course most disappointing if these rumors are true, is the lack of Media Center functionality built-in….but still some good things to get excited about.

From a feature perspective it appears that Vail;

  • Is in fact based on server 2k8v2 (x64 only)
  • Based on the wim the leaked version is “ServerHomePremium”.
  • There is no notable MCE functionality.
  • News channels are beginning to pickup on the leak now that the iPad has peaked.

Plus the remote access side look amazing, I’ve never seen this kind of interaction or performance from just a web interface. Very impressive…

When space shuttle Atlantis blasts off on the final flight to Hubble, the astronauts will be carrying 180 special tools, and 116 of them were designed just for this mission, which involves tricky repairs to two science instruments that were never intended to be fixed in space.

This one lovely flat, more photos on Elle Decos site…

Photo stylist Juan Carlos Garcia-Lavin lives in a one-bedroom, two-bath apartment apartment in Manhattan that feels much larger than its less than 1,000 square feet size. His years as a photo stylist have obviously taught him some tricks to make his modest home look larger.

I’ve always wanted a moat…

Australian studio Robert Mills Architects have completed a house surrounded by a pool of water in Melbourne, Australia. Called Ross Street, the front facade has no windows at all to shut out noise from the street, while the ground floor at the back of the house is glazed floor to ceiling.

That’s an example of the depressingly funny captions written and partnered up with modernist house photos from past photo shoots from the pages of Dwell Magazine over at Unhappy Hipsters. The Tumblr blog seems to be a bit off on the “hipster” label (in our hood, hipsters rent, not own expensive modernist showcases), but then again, we’re not complaining too much when we can enjoy such gems as: “He is sad because his house looks like an elementary school. And all the children have died.”

Of course I am biased seeing as I was responsible for the design of Conde Nast Traveller’s site, but this is still a great feature…

This is the biggest list of hotel recommendations we’ve ever seen. Readers of Condé Nast Traveller elected 681 (!) hotels that they deem the best in the world. Many of them are posted online, and it’s been fun to click through the list for eye candy and inspiration…
